This project came from the problem of how you might be able store low cost mains electricity overnight, so that you can use it or sell it at more expensive times.
Domestic Power Storage
The problem is that the storing mains electricity is usually only accomplished with big infrastructure, but we decided to look at whether it could be done using some smart equipment and bulk-manufactured Lithium batteries from the electric car market.
We developed a solution using a battery that could store a day’s worth of juice for an average household along with a grid-tied inverter that could be signalled remotely to change the direction of flow of electricity to the house when required.
With a special algorithm that looked at demand and prices, and lots of remotely controlled domestic units, the opportunities for exporting and importing power become possible.
